“Pictures Girls Make”: Portraitures
Curated by Alison M. Gingeras

On the occasion of TEFAF New York 2024, BLUM is pleased to present a continuation of the lauded 2023 group exhibition “Pictures Girls Make”: Portraitures, curated by Alison M. Gingeras. Originally installed at the gallery’s Los Angeles space in fall of 2023, TEFAF 2024 marks the New York debut for this important contribution to the art historical discourse, with an expanded selection of artists. Arguing that portraiture—an age-old mode of representation—is an enduringly democratic, humanistic genre, “Pictures Girls Make”: Portraitures moves beyond binary thinking to emphasize the diversity of subjects, complexities of biography, and array of individual characters that artists have been able to capture through various modes of portrait making. Released alongside this presentation, a catalog for 2023’s “Pictures Girls Make”: Portraitures—which includes a booklet documenting the TEFAF New York 2024 booth—is now available through BLUM Books.
